Our Approach

Our approach to consulting is grounded in feminist principles and informed by African Feminist praxis. We believe that this political grounding can transform how we organise, distribute resources, create a just funding ecosystem, and support the development of equitable societies.
Let's dream together...
Our commitment to transform approaches to social justice organising starts from within. We acknowledge the complexity of social systems and believe that we can model systems change praxis through our internal practices. We do this by practicing shared leadership, pay equity, centring collective care and healing in our approach to organising and by reimagining our approaches to work and consulting. We also acknowledge that Lorha Nakambe is one part of our collective dreams of healing, liberation and centring joy in our lives. As a result, we value spaciousness and rest, and observe 3-4 day work week in addition to a week-long collective pause once a quarter to renew our spirits.

We are committed to reimagining our relationships to each other, including the naming conventions we use. We refer to our team members as Dreamers because they embody the vision, passion, wisdom, and commitment to create a more just world. Additionally, Co-Dreamers are our consulting partners who share aspirations to organise for social justice across institutionalised philanthropy and feminist movements. We work closely with Co-Dreamers to understand their unique needs and goals, and co-create strategies that align with their values and priorities. We prioritise a feminist approach to knowledge production, which is committed to creating knowledge that transforms inequality and centres women, girls, and gender non-conforming individuals and their movements.

We believe that philanthropy has a critical role to play in social change. We position ourselves as an infrastructure organisation that works to support transformative practice within the funding ecosystem. We are particularly interested in transforming the relationships, trust gaps, ideologies, and mental models that inform how resources are distributed. We see ourselves as located at the intersection of social justice movements and philanthropy to transform the funding ecosystem. This positionality enables us to work with philanthropic organisations to identify ways to transform power asymmetries, shift resource flows towards feminist movements and transform philanthropic narratives and practices. We also co-create organisational and sectoral initiatives that reimagine philanthropy through audacious proposals.

Our approach to facilitation and learning approach is grounded in participatory methodologies that prioritise the voices and experiences of those who are most impacted by the issues at hand. We believe in creating safe and inclusive spaces for learning and growth, where everyone is encouraged to participate and contribute their knowledge and experiences.

Feminist movement-building is at the heart of our approach. We work to support and amplify the voices and leadership of feminist movements, and to build strategic alliances and partnerships that advance transformative change. We believe in creating spaces for feminist movements to connect, learn from each other, and collaborate on shared priorities.
